What is Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
We humans have been dealing with excess hair for many thousands of years. We’ve found flint razors dating right back to the stone age, and archaeologists have even found obsidian shaving tools dating back 4000 years. As well as using shaving, there are other ancient methods that are still used: plucking and waxing – plus the more modern needle epilation. All these have drawbacks – they’re either temporary fixes or can only treat one single hair at a time. You may have heard of using lasers to remove hair but what is laser hair removal treatment and how does it work?
What is Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
For permanent or long-lasting hair reduction, we have to completely the destroy the hair follicles from within which your individual hairs grow. We use a controlled pulse of laser light to penetrate the upper layer of your skin. When the laser is absorbed by your body’s natural melanin it kills the hair from the inside.
Pain tolerance for laser hair removal varies. Your skin’s pigmentation level is the fundamental factor in play. The sensation of our machines is totally different depending on which one we use. You do not need any anaesthetic, and most people who have a laser hair removal treatment describe the sensation as feeling a bit like an elastic band snapping on their skin.
Your hair grows in cycles. Our machines treat hair during its first, growth, stage. You’ll need a course of between 3 and 6 treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart.
You’ll need to cease any other hair removal treatments you use for at least 4 weeks before your first appointment and throughout your treatment course. Sun treatments are also to be avoided as tanning raises pigmentation in your skin and so affects the treatment.
The applicator that guides the laser to the skin on our machine is 15mm by 50mm, so a relatively big area can be targeted with every laser light flash. Our Merseyside laser hair removal system uses the largest spot size on the market and it auto flashes without delay so a full leg hair removal treatment can take just 15 to 30 minutes compared with the typical 90 minutes it takes elsewhere.
