How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

We have had an issue with excess hair for thousands of years. Flint razors have been found dating back to the stone age, and archaeologists have found obsidian shaving tools from over 4000 years ago. As well as shaving, other ancient methods are still used: plucking, waxing or needle epilation. All have a drawback – either  they are only temporary or only treat one hair at a time. You may have heard of using lasers to treat unwanted hair but how does laser hair removal work? Read on to find out more…

How does laser hair removal work?

For long-lasting hair reduction, we must completely the destroy hair follicles from which individual hairs grow. We use controlled pulses of laser to penetrate the upper skin layer. When absorbed by the body’s natural melanin they kill the hair inside.

Pain tolerance varies for laser hair removal. Your skin type is the fundamental factor. The sensation of each of our machines is totally different. You do not need anaesthetic, and most people describe the sensation as a bit like an elastic band snap.

Your hair grows in three cycles. Our machines are intended to treat hair during the first cycle: growth stage. You need a course of between three and six treatments, six to eight weeks apart.

You’ll need to stop any other hair removal treatments for at least four weeks before your laser hair removal appointment and during your treatment course. Sun treatments are the same: tanning raises the pigmentation levels in your skin and affects the treatment.

The applicator on our machine that guides the laser to the skin is 15mm by 50mm, so a relatively large area is targeted with every laser flash. Our system has the largest spot size on the market and auto flashes without any delay so a full leg hair removal treatment takes just 15 to 30 minutes instead of the typical 90 minutes elsewhere.
